Pro-life Abortion Before 1973, individual states had been allowed to decide whether their state was pro-life or pro-choice. Eventually, abortion became legal in the United States. Although legalized, there still remain multiple valid reasons why abortion should not be legal. With the medical complications that come with abortion and the argument that is it or is it not murder, abortion is one of the most controversial topics of our era. Since life is given at the time of conception, abortion is an irresponsible decision because of carelessness which results in emotional, physical, and relational problems and violates civil rights. This l aw would label abortion as fetal homicide because unborn children are victims of crime. In accordance with the Oxford English Dictionary, fetal homicide would be classified as the deliberate and unlawful killing of a fetus from another; murder (OED, Online). If abortion isn’t murder, then why is it when a pregnant woman dies they call it a double homicide? Abortion is not only harming the unborn child, but it also can cause medical complications for the mother. These range from a higher chance of early labor for future pregnancies to having a higher risk of cancer. â€Å"The nine most common major complications which can occur at the time of an abortion are: infection, excessive bleeding, embolism, ripping or perforation of the uterus, anesthesia complications, convulsions, hemorrhage, cervical injury, and endotoxic shock† (El, Online). Abortions can actually lead to having an adequate amount of damage. Although not as common, abortion can increase the chances of wome n getting breast, ovarian, and liver cancer. â€Å"Women with a history of one abortion face a 2.3 times higher risk of having cervical cancer, compared to women with no history of abortion† (El,
